Kun Khalifat have called on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to protect their players and officials after alleging that members of their team were assaulted following Saturday’s 1–1 draw against Doma United in Gombe.
The Owerri-based club raised the concern in a statement published on its official Facebook page after a video began circulating on social media, appearing to show head coach Obinna Uzoho with injuries to his face, blood on his palms.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, including the identities of those responsible, have not been independently established. The AthleticNG understands that an official response from the NPFL is awaited.
In its statement, Kun Khalifat expressed frustration over what it described as the danger visiting teams face when they secure a positive result against home opposition.
“When we lose at home we lose in peace. But when ever we win away or pick a point against the home team our lives will be in the hands of God this is so so unacceptable again we can’t continue like this
#NPFL Please protect our lives”
The club’s appeal raises fresh questions about the safety of players and technical officials during domestic league fixtures, particularly after matches that end in disappointment for the home side.
What happened after Doma United draw?
Kun Khalifat travelled to the Pantami Stadium in Gombe to face Doma United in their Matchday Nine fixture of the 2026/27 Euromatch-NPFL season on Saturday, 17 October.
The contest ended 1–1, with the visitors taking the lead in the 54th minute before Doma United equalised four minutes later through Tijani Azeez. Neither side found a winner, and the points were shared.
However, attention shifted away from the result after the video emerged and Kun Khalifat publicly raised concerns about the safety of their travelling contingent.
The circulating footage appears to show Uzoho with blood around his nose and mouth.
Kun Khalifat’s statement did not directly name or identify any alleged assailants, while an official account of the incident from the league authorities had not been made available at the time of writing.

The club’s statement also drew attention to what it sees as a disparity between the treatment of teams at home and the experience of visiting sides that take points away.
Kun Khalifat have endured difficult results this season, including a 5–0 defeat away to Rivers United and a 4–2 loss to Bendel Insurance. They have also suffered setbacks on their own ground, but have continued to compete through the opening weeks of the campaign.
The club’s message suggests that its immediate concern extends beyond the outcome of one fixture to the protection of teams travelling across the country for league matches.
Football results can produce intense emotions among supporters, but players, coaches and other team officials must be able to leave a venue safely, regardless of the result. Any allegation of violence against visiting personnel warrants a prompt and transparent investigation.
At the time of writing, no official response from the NPFL or Doma United addressing Kun Khalifat’s allegations had been identified in the available reports.
