Galatasaray assistant coach Ismael Garcia believes Victor Osimhen has the qualities to exploit Barcelona’s high defensive line when the Turkish champions host the Spanish side in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash.
The Super Eagles striker has returned from injury at a crucial point for Galatasaray, with Garcia confident that his pace, movement and ability to attack space behind defenders could make him a major threat against Hansi Flick’s aggressive defensive system.
Speaking to Diario Sport, Garcia confirmed that Osimhen was ready to feature and described the Nigerian as a player capable of making a decisive difference.
“Yes, yes. I’m not going to tell you clichés or lies: he’s ready to play and he’s a completely differential player for us. Obviously, he’s there to play,” Garcia said.
The assistant coach went further, suggesting that Barcelona’s tactical approach could make Osimhen particularly dangerous.
“And I’ll tell you more: the top players do well in every game, but perhaps, because of Barcelona’s way of defending, so aggressive and with the defensive line in the middle of the field, Osimhen is the striker who, due to his characteristics, is perfect against that type of defence,” he added.
“Beyond the fact that he is an extraordinary striker, we hope that he can do a lot of damage to Barcelona with the way he plays.”
Barcelona’s high line could play into Osimhen’s hands
Barcelona’s willingness to push their defensive line high is a defining feature of Flick’s approach, allowing the team to compress the pitch and maintain pressure on opponents.
However, the strategy can leave space behind the defenders for forwards capable of exploiting gaps with intelligent movement and acceleration.
Osimhen’s ability to run in behind, stretch defensive lines and attack crosses gives Galatasaray a potential outlet against Barcelona’s aggressive positioning.
His physical presence could also provide the hosts with an alternative when they need to bypass the visitors’ press.
Garcia’s comments suggest Galatasaray intend to make the most of those characteristics rather than allow Barcelona to dictate the contest without being challenged.

Osimhen returned to action over the weekend after an injury layoff, giving Galatasaray renewed hope ahead of their European assignment.
His availability is particularly important following the Turkish side’s 3-1 defeat away to Sporting CP in their Champions League opener, while Barcelona began their campaign with a commanding 5-1 victory over Feyenoord.
The Spanish champions also arrive in Istanbul after beating Getafe 3-0 in La Liga, while Galatasaray strengthened their domestic position with a 3-1 win over Kasımpaşa.
The sides meet at RAMS Park in Istanbul on Tuesday, October 13, with Galatasaray seeking their first points of the league phase.
