Mourinho questions timing of Vinicius Jr four-match ban

José Mourinho has questioned the timing of the announcement of Vinicius Jr’s reported four-match La Liga suspension, asking why details of the ban were released shortly before Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League fixture.

The Portuguese coach expressed his concerns over the timing of the announcement, suggesting that the information could have been published at another time rather than immediately before an important European match.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who shared Mourinho’s comments on X, the Real Madrid coach said: “Ask Spanish Refereeing Committee why they published the news about Vini’s ban minutes before he plays an important UCL game.”

“Real Madrid is a Spanish club, so why publish it now?” he added.

Vinicius has reportedly been handed a four-match suspension that could rule him out of several domestic fixtures, including the highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona.

The Brazilian forward is expected to miss matches against Sevilla, Barcelona, Racing Santander and Valencia if the suspension stands.

His potential absence from the meeting with Barcelona would be a significant setback for Real Madrid, given his importance to the team’s attacking play.

However, the reported ban and its implications remain subject to confirmation of the relevant disciplinary decision and its status.

Mourinho’s comments have shifted attention towards the timing of the announcement, with the coach questioning why the information was made public so close to a Champions League fixture.

Real Madrid must now contend with the uncertainty surrounding Vinicius’ availability for upcoming domestic matches while continuing their European campaign.

The central issue raised by Mourinho is not simply the suspension itself, but why news of the punishment emerged just before a major Champions League game.
