Ajax communicate fresh transfer plans to Wolves over Tolu Arokodare – report

Semi Ajayi earned rare recognition after Hull City’s draw with Brentford, but the numbers behind his performance explain why he stood out. Here’s the case today

Tolu Arokodare’s impressive start to life at Ajax could reshape his future, with the Dutch giants reportedly informing Wolverhampton Wanderers of their desire to sign the Nigerian striker permanently.

The 25-year-old has found his scoring touch in Amsterdam after a difficult spell at Wolves, where he struggled to make the expected impact following his £24 million move less than a year ago. His recent performances have now put a potential long term stay in the Netherlands firmly in the conversation.

According to Africa Foot, Ajax are already working behind the scenes to secure a permanent agreement for Arokodare in 2027. While the reported interest signals a change in his fortunes, the financial and contractual details of any deal remain unclear.

The Nigerian forward has registered nine goals and three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions for Ajax, according to Sports Mole.

His scoring run has been particularly encouraging in the Eredivisie, where he has found the net in five of his last seven appearances as Ajax pursue a title challenge.

Despite completing 90 minutes only three times across all competitions, Arokodare has made an impact in the opportunities available to him. His output has strengthened his position at the club and offered Ajax a compelling reason to explore keeping him beyond his current loan.

The terms of the loan reportedly include an option to buy, although the precise fee has not been disclosed. It remains unclear whether Ajax intend to negotiate a lower figure or activate the existing arrangement.

Arokodare’s current form represents a significant contrast with his experience at Molineux.

Wolves signed the Nigeria international for £24 million less than 12 months before his loan move, but he struggled to establish himself during his first season. Reports also alleged a falling out with new head coach Cesar Peixoto, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future at the English club.

The summer loan to Ajax offered an opportunity to reset his career. His goals and assists in the Netherlands have since helped turn a temporary move into a potential permanent transfer.

The appeal is clear, they have a forward producing consistently without necessarily needing to play every minute. For Arokodare, a permanent move could offer continuity at a club where his performances have improved, and his role appears to be developing.

Would Wolves sell Arokodare early?

Wolves have their own reasons to consider the striker’s future carefully. Despite sitting fourth in the Championship at the time of the report, the club reportedly need reinforcements in attack.

Raúl Jiménez is sidelined until at least January, Adam Armstrong has scored twice in the league, and Newcastle United loanee Sean Neave has struggled to earn more than two league starts.

Sports Mole argues that Wolves could benefit from selling Arokodare in January rather than waiting until the summer, potentially using the proceeds to recruit another striker for their promotion push.

However, that scenario depends on the terms of the Ajax agreement, the fee available and Wolves’ assessment of their own attacking options. There is no confirmation that Wolves have decided to sell early or that Ajax have submitted a formal offer.

Ajax’s reported interest puts Arokodare at an important point in his career. After a difficult spell in England, his productivity in the Netherlands has revived the prospect of a permanent move and given him a chance to establish himself at a club competing for domestic honours.

The coming months could determine whether Ajax are willing to meet Wolves’ valuation and whether the English club believe a sale would serve their own ambitions.
