Senegal’s dramatic victory over Morocco at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations may have sparked celebrations, but those scenes could yet take another twist following reports of possible disciplinary action from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Young Lions of Teranga edged hosts Morocco 7-6 on penalties after a gripping 1-1 draw in Rabat on Thursday night, booking their place in the final where they will face Tanzania on June 2 at 8pm local time.

Senegal defeated Morocco on penalties to reach the U-17 AFCON final against Tanzania, but celebrations may yet turn controversial amid looming CAF scrutiny.
With continental glory now within touching distance, there is also significant prize money at stake. The winners of the U-17 AFCON final will pocket $125,000, while the runners-up will receive $95,000.
However, what should have been a straightforward night of celebration has now been overshadowed by controversy after Senegalese players and members of the technical crew were accused of provocative conduct towards home supporters following the match.
CAF is reportedly expected to review the incidents, with potential sanctions now hanging over members of the Senegal delegation.
Thursday’s result delivered another painful blow for Morocco against Senegal on the continental stage.
Playing in front of a packed crowd at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium, the Atlas Cubs looked set for disappointment after Senegal took control early in the contest.
Mouhamed Wagne handed the visitors the lead in the 23rd minute after reacting quickest inside the box following an initial save from Morocco’s goalkeeper after good attacking work by Commissaire Faye.
Morocco pushed hard for an equalizer and even thought they had levelled in the opening half before VAR intervened to disallow the goal.

The hosts dominated possession after the break and piled pressure on Senegal’s disciplined defensive structure but struggled to find a breakthrough.
Drama eventually arrived deep into stoppage time. A handball by Cheikh Dieng handed Morocco a penalty in the ninth minute of added time, giving the hosts one final opportunity to rescue the contest.
Although Senegal goalkeeper Assane Sarr brilliantly saved Ismail El Aoud’s initial effort, the Moroccan midfielder reacted quickest to tuck home the rebound and force a tense penalty shootout.
Both sides held their nerve in a high-pressure battle before Senegal eventually prevailed 7-6 in sudden death, with Sarr once again emerging as the hero.

Reports emerging from Rabat claim several Senegal players and officials were seen making gestures toward sections of the Moroccan crowd after the match, sparking reactions both inside the stadium and across social media.
Videos and images circulating online have drawn criticism, with some supporters accusing members of the Senegal camp of unsporting conduct.

CAF is now expected to examine the footage before deciding whether disciplinary action is necessary.
While no official sanctions have yet been announced, the incident threatens to cast a shadow over Senegal’s impressive run to the final.
