Dyche provides fitness update on Awoniyi and Aina ahead of Liverpool trip

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche has offered a detailed update on the fitness of Super Eagles duo Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina as the club prepares for Saturday’s visit to Liverpool.

Forest return from the international break after securing only their second Premier League win of the season against Leeds, but Dyche says injuries remain a concern for a squad sitting 19th in the table.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is the closest to a comeback, with Dyche confirming the winger has trained on grass and could rejoin the squad if he continues to progress. Oleksandr Zinchenko and young goalkeeper Aaron Bott remain in treatment with medical staff.

Dyche revealed Awoniyi will not feature at Anfield after developing what he described as a “grumbling knee”. While the issue is not regarded as serious, it has prevented the striker from taking part in full training. Forest have kept the forward working in the gym to maintain fitness while awaiting a follow-up scan.

The manager added that Awoniyi “has improved” and is hopeful the striker is nearing the end of the recovery phase.

Aina, sidelined since September with a hamstring injury, also remains unavailable and is yet to resume team training.

Liverpool, the defending Premier League champions, will be without Alisson Becker, while Jeremie Frimpong and Alexander Isak remain doubts.
