Why we signed Emmanuel Dennis: Brøndby explain decision

Danish Superliga side Brøndby IF have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis, who has agreed a contract running until the summer of 2028.

The 28-year-old must first return to England to finalise his residence and work permit before officially joining the squad.

Brøndby moved quickly after Dennis impressed during a week-long trial at the club’s training camp. The sporting department was convinced that his combination of speed, power, and experience could add a new dimension to their attack.

Once his paperwork is approved, Dennis is expected to return to Denmark and integrate fully with the team, taking the number 17 shirt.

Brøndby’s football director, Benjamin Schmedes, explained the rationale behind the signing:

“Emmanuel has shown us in the past week that he possesses qualities that give us more options offensively, which you do not necessarily see every day in the Super League. He has speed, breakthrough power, and is a threat in front of goal. On top of that, he brings valuable experience at a high international level.”

Schmedes added that Dennis’ attitude and commitment were equally important:

“He has clearly expressed that he wants to be at Brøndby and is ready to put in the effort it takes to succeed here. All of this combined makes him a really exciting player for us.”

Dennis, who has earned eight caps for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has been without a club since leaving Nottingham Forest last summer. He last played competitively during a short loan spell at Blackburn in May. Reflecting on his early impressions of Brøndby, Dennis said:

“I am very happy to have signed with the club. I have seen video clips of the fans – they have a lot of energy, and so do I. The first week with the boys was fantastic; we found chemistry quickly. They welcomed me so well that it felt like we had known each other for years.”

The move represents a fresh start for Dennis after a turbulent period in his career. Once a €13m signing for Nottingham Forest, and previously a standout at Watford with 12 Premier League goals, Dennis’ stock fell over the past year, with a potential transfer to Romanian side CFR Cluj collapsing over wage disputes.
