Edna Imade chooses Spain over Nigeria in Nations League call-up

Edna Imade has committed her international future to Spain after being named in La Roja’s 25-player squad for their Nations League doubleheader against Germany.

The Real Sociedad forward, long monitored by the Super Falcons, had been eligible for both Spain and Nigeria.

But her inclusion in the Spain squad means she could now be tied permanently to La Roja if she features in either match on 28 November or 2 December.

Imade, 25, was born in Morocco to Nigerian parents migrating to Europe and has spent her professional career in Spain and Germany. She is currently on loan at Real Sociedad from Bayern Munich.

She has been one of Liga F’s standout performers this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. Her penalty earlier this month ended Barcelona’s 10-match unbeaten run, and she was named Liga F’s Player of the Month for October.

Imade now links up with a stacked Spanish attack featuring Claudia Pina, Alba Redondo, Esther González and Eva Navarro.

In January, she had said she remained open to representing Nigeria, but Spain’s latest call-up has brought that possibility to a close.
