Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have booked their place in the third and final round of the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after completing a ruthless demolition of Guinea with a 6-0 victory in Ikenne-Remo.
Having travelled to Côte d’Ivoire and produced a dominant 5-0 first leg performance in Abidjan, the Flamingos returned home determined to avoid the complacency repeatedly warned against by head coach Akeem Busari. Instead, they delivered an even more emphatic display to seal an 11-0 aggregate triumph and move one step closer to Morocco 2026.

Nigeria’s Flamingos defeated Guinea 6-0 in Ikenne.
Back on home soil, the Flamingos showed no signs of easing off, putting up another clinical performance in front of their supporters at the Remo Stars Stadium.
In form forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring in the ninth minute, converting a precise cross from Queen Joseph to continue her impressive scoring run across both legs. Team captain Harmony Chidi then doubled Nigeria’s advantage with a superb long-range effort.

Harmony Chidi scored twice against Guinea in 6-0 humbling
The goal was another special moment in a remarkable qualifying campaign for Chidi. The skipper, who recently spoke about overcoming a difficult injury setback that forced her to miss a previous World Cup campaign, has now led from the front throughout the tie, adding to the hat-trick she scored during the first-leg victory in Abidjan.
Nigeria’s relentless pressure continued as Queen Joseph got on the scoresheet herself in the 23rd minute, finishing clinically to extend the lead. Adegbuyi then rose highest to head home her second goal of the afternoon in the 32nd minute before Chidi struck again two minutes later, finishing off a well worked team move to leave Guinea with no route back into the contest.

The Flamingos carried the same intensity into the second half despite already having complete control of the tie. Substitute Precious Oscar added the sixth goal in the 70th minute to cap another dominant outing and underline Nigeria’s superiority across both matches.

The comprehensive victory reflected the mentality Busari had demanded from his players throughout the week. Despite the sizeable first-leg advantage, the coach had insisted that “it is not over until it is over” and repeatedly warned his squad against relaxing before qualification was secured.
That focus was evident as the Flamingos combined attacking brilliance with defensive discipline to complete the job professionally and advance confidently into the final qualifying round, where they will face Benin Republic for a place at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
The celebrations were further boosted by a financial reward from proprietor of Remo Stars and Beyond Limits Football Club, Kunle Soname, who had promised the team N750,000 for every goal scored in the return leg. Following the Flamingos’ six-goal haul, Soname fulfilled his pledge by rewarding the team with N4.5 million.
