Why Chukwueze was left out of Fulham’s squad against Leeds

Fulham manager Marco Silva has explained why Super Eagles wing wizard Samuel Chukwueze was not named in the squad for Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leeds United in the English Premier League.

The 26-year-old winger, who joined on loan from AC Milan on deadline day, was expected to feature but did not make the matchday list.

Silva said Chukwueze had only just returned from international duty with Nigeria and needed more time to settle in.

“It was impossible for Chukwueze to start, probably he doesn’t know all his teammates’ names,” Silva told reporters. “He had two days of training after arriving on the last day and then went off to play for his country.”

His compatriots Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi both impressed, Iwobi was withdrawn in the second of half while Bassey played 90 minutes to help Fulham record their first clean sheet of the campaign.
