Stanley Nwabali’s expected move to Simba SC has officially collapsed.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper had been strongly linked with the Tanzanian giants in recent weeks, with reports suggesting negotiations had advanced towards a possible agreement.
However, the deal eventually broke down after both parties failed to agree on personal terms.
According to reports from South Africa, Simba were unwilling to meet the financial demands presented by Nwabali’s camp despite their long-standing interest in the 29-year-old goalkeeper.
“They really wanted to sign him in January, but it did not happen and they have moved on from him,” a source told Kickoff Magazine.
“Simba wanted to sign him because he is a good goalkeeper, obviously, but the demands from his side were too exorbitant. They have moved on and he is no longer going there.”
The collapse represents another setback for Nwabali, who has been searching for a new club since leaving Chippa United in February.

After his impressive performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the goalkeeper was expected to secure a major move during the transfer window, with interest arriving from several clubs across Africa and Europe.
Simba had emerged as one of the strongest contenders for his signature, particularly after initially attempting to sign him earlier in the year.
Despite the failed move, Nwabali still remains a highly sought-after goalkeeper.
In Tanzania, Azam FC are reportedly monitoring the situation closely and could make a move following Simba’s withdrawal from negotiations.
South African clubs Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have also continued to be linked with the Nigerian international as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.
Interest also extends to North Africa, where Raja Casablanca is believed to be tracking his situation.
Outside the continent, clubs including Al Ettifaq, Queens Park Rangers and Union Saint-Gilloise have all reportedly shown interest in the goalkeeper following his rise in profile over the past year.
Nwabali’s reputation grew significantly during the 2023 AFCON, where he established himself as Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper and played a key role in the team’s run to the final.
The former Enyimba goalkeeper kept four consecutive clean sheets during the tournament and earned praise for his composure, penalty-saving ability and commanding presence.
At club level, he also impressed during his time at Chippa United, producing several standout performances and becoming one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the South African league.

For now, Nwabali continues to train individually with former Nigeria international Greg Etafia while waiting for his next opportunity.
His immediate future could become increasingly important ahead of Nigeria’s international friendlies against the Poland national football team and the Portugal national football team in June, as questions continue to grow over where the Super Eagles goalkeeper will play next season.
