The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has handed Heartland Queens FC a ₦1 million fine following an incident involving the assault of match officials during their fixture against Remo Stars Ladies on April 16, 2025, at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
In an official statement released on Friday, NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi condemned the behavior of the club’s officials and supporters, labeling the incident a gross violation of fair play and respect for referees.

According to Modupe Shabi, Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, the disciplinary action followed a detailed review of the match report from Match No. 92 of the 2024/2025 season.
The findings confirmed that individuals associated with the club engaged in unruly and unacceptable behavior.

Shabi referenced Article 26.1 of the league’s regulations, which states that any player or official who assaults a match official physically, verbally, or through offensive body language is liable to a ₦1 million fine and possible banishment.

The league body urged Heartland Queens to take immediate steps to educate their staff and fans on the importance of discipline and sportsmanship.
The sanction, according to the NWFL, is part of ongoing efforts to uphold the integrity of the game and deter future misconduct.
