Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has playfully dismissed suggestions he could join Arsenal, joking that he is now “too old” to make the move to the North London club.
The Nottingham Forest full back made the light hearted remark after being approached by a Nigerian fan working at the Wimbledon Championships, who asked whether he would consider a switch to Mikel Arteta’s side.
“I’m too old for Arsenal,” Aina replied with a smile in a video that has since circulated on social media.
Although clearly made in jest, the comment reflects Arsenal’s recent recruitment strategy, with the club largely focusing on younger players under Arteta as they continue building a squad capable of challenging for major honours.
Nottingham Forest remains Aina’s focus
Rather than discussing a transfer, Aina’s attention appears firmly fixed on Nottingham Forest, where he is preparing for his fourth season after joining from Italian side Torino in 2023.
The versatile defender has become one of Forest’s most reliable performers, establishing himself as a key figure with his defensive consistency, athleticism and ability to operate on either flank.
Before returning permanently to the Premier League, Aina also enjoyed a loan spell at Fulham during the 2020/21 season, having begun his professional career through Chelsea’s academy.

While his defensive performances have continued to earn praise, Aina admits he wants to contribute more in the final third during the new campaign.
The 29-year-old failed to score in 28 appearances across all competitions last season, although he did register an assist in Forest’s 2-1 UEFA Europa League defeat to Fenerbahçe.
Now, the defender has set himself an ambitious personal objective.
“I need to pray and fast because I did not score any goals last season. The season before, I think I got three goal involvements.
“I need to do some serious prayer and fasting because I need at least five. If I get five, I will be content.”
Aina’s attacking ambitions are not without foundation. Before becoming a full back, he started his career as a winger, and his pace and willingness to drive forward remain among the strongest aspects of his game.
During the 2024/25 Premier League season, he scored twice and provided one assist in 35 league appearances, performances that reportedly attracted interest from Manchester City during the January 2025 transfer window.
