Flying Eagles injury updates after AFCON group B cracker with Morocco

Flying Eagles faced a tough test against Morocco in a tense U-20 AFCON clash, with both sides still unbeaten as group standings tighten.

The Under-20 national teams of Morocco and Nigeria played out a tightly contested and physical 0-0 draw in their Group B encounter at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium.

The match was marked by a series of missed opportunities, fouls, and stoppages. Despite both teams showcasing moments of attacking promise, neither side could find the breakthrough across the 90 minutes.

Morocco came closest to scoring in the second half, with Fouad Zahouani and Ayman Arguigue both failing to capitalize on headed chances from inside the six-yard box.

Nigeria responded with efforts of their own, including a long-range strike from Israel Ayuma and a header from Emmanuel Chukwu. However, neither of these attempts troubled the Moroccan goalkeeper, and the teams headed into the final whistle still level at 0-0.

The match was interrupted by several substitutions and injuries, with players from both sides requiring treatment late in the second half.

Morocco’s Hossam Essadak and Nigeria’s Divine Oliseh were among those who left the pitch limping. Oliseh’s availability for the next match against Kenya will be determined after further assessment. The result means that both nations will have to wait a little longer to secure a place in the knockout stages.

Their final group matches will be decisive in determining their fate. Morocco will face Tunisia on Wednesday, while Nigeria will take on Kenya in a simultaneous fixture.
