Manchester City’s hopes crushed as Ola Aina prepares to sign new Forest deal

Ola Aina is set to sign a new contract with Nottingham Forest, ending Manchester City's pursuit of the defender.

Ola Aina is set to remain at Nottingham Forest for the foreseeable future, as the defender prepares to sign a new contract, despite continued interest from Premier League giants Manchester City.

The 28-year-old has been one of Forest’s standout players this season, particularly in defence, where his presence has been invaluable. Aina’s absence due to a calf injury was keenly felt, as it coincided with a dip in form that cost the Reds a place in the top-four.

Nonetheless, his performances when fully fit have demonstrated his importance to the squad.

Aina’s contract at the City Ground is set to expire at the end of June, and although the former Chelsea full-back has attracted significant interest from clubs at home and abroad, it now appears he will extend his stay at Forest.

According to Telegraph UK, Aina is expected to sign a new deal soon, with the contract offer having been on the table for months. The defender has also triggered an automatic one-year extension, which will keep him at the club for the 2025/26 season.

Since joining Forest from Torino, Aina has been a key figure for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. The versatile defender has been a regular starter when fit, featuring in every Premier League match this term and contributing two goals and one assist.

His robust defending and attacking contributions have been pivotal in keeping Forest competitive.

Manchester City’s interest in Aina has been no secret, but their hopes of securing the defender’s services are now set to be dashed as Forest move to secure his future. City were reportedly eyeing Aina as a potential reinforcement for their squad, but with the new deal looming, it appears their pursuit will be in vain.

Nottingham Forest are currently sitting in 7th place in the Premier League, with two league matches remaining. While a Champions League spot is still within reach, Forest will need favourable results from other teams to clinch that coveted fourth spot.
