14-year-old Aidan Dumuje-Abili wins medal as Team Enugu lose in basketball at NSF 2024

Team Delta leads the NSF 2024 medal table with 122 medals, as Ogun move into third place and set up a football final showdown with Kwara.

Fourteen-year-old Aidan Dumuje-Abili made a splash at the 2024 National Sports Festival (NSF), claiming silver in the men’s 100m backstroke and marking his first-ever senior-level medal.

Representing the Independent Junior Athletes (IJA), the JSS3 student of Grange School, Lagos, finished with a time of 1:04.15 seconds at the Gateway Games in Abeokuta.

The talented youngster has a decorated youth résumé, with multiple gold medals from the Dolphin Swimming League, National Youth Games, International School Sport Federation, and the World School Games, but this medal represents a major leap into the senior competitive swimming scene.

In a closely fought final, Team Ogun’s Kolade Otunla won gold medal in a time of 1:02.41s, Team Delta’s Duke Enyekamime took bronze with a time of 1:04.70 seconds.

Aidan Dumuje-Abili stunned at the 2024 NSF, earning his first senior medal in the men’s 100m backstroke, while Enugu crumble in basketball.

Meanwhile, in men’s basketball, Team Plateau defeated Team Oyo 61-41 in their opening fixture of the 2024 National Sports Festival at the Alake Sports Complex, Abeokuta.

Plateau started the game strongly, though Team Oyo fought hard in the first and second quarters. Plateau then dominated the third and fourth quarters to secure a 20-point victory.

In other basketball action, Team Delta defeated Enugu 48-31, while Team Rivers recorded a 50-38 victory over Team Kaduna.
