Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has praised the impressive display of skill and sportsmanship at the ongoing Gateway Games 2024, describing the performances by young athletes as “truly inspiring”.
During a tour of several key venues, the governor made his first stop at the Alake Sports Centre, where he observed spirited male and female volleyball matches.
“The energy and skill on display were remarkable,” he said, expressing pride in the athletes’ performances.
The governor’s next stop was the Ijeja venue, where he watched gymnasts, table tennis players, and handball teams in action. Commending the participants, he noted the high level of discipline and dedication evident in each event.
“These young competitors are not just representing their states, but the future of Nigerian sport,” he remarked.

A key moment of the day came at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, where Governor Abiodun witnessed a series of thrilling athletic races.

He was particularly moved by Team Ogun’s victory in the 4x400m Mixed Relay and personally presented the gold medals to the winning team.
“It was a proud and unforgettable moment for us all,” the governor said, adding that Ogun State remains committed to developing grassroots sports and providing opportunities for young talent to flourish.
According to the official medal table released by the Main Organising Committee at 11am, Ogun State currently sits third on the log with a total of 69 medals – 27 gold, 16 silver, and 26 bronze.
