South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns became the first African team to score three goals in a senior FIFA competition, but fell just short in a thrilling 4-3 loss to Borussia Dortmund at the FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday in Cincinnati, USA.
The Group F clash at TQL Stadium saw Jobe Bellingham, younger brother of England star Jude Bellingham, score his first goal for Dortmund in just his first start for the Bundesliga giants.
Despite sweltering conditions, the match was played at a frenetic pace. Lucas Ribeiro stunned the German side with a dazzling solo effort in the 11th minute, charging from deep and finishing past Gregor Kobel to give Sundowns a surprise lead.

But Dortmund equalised when Ronwen Williams misplayed a pass straight to Felix Nmecha, who slotted into an open net.
The comeback continued when Serhou Guirassy headed in Julian Brandt’s cross to make it 2-1.

Then came Bellingham’s big moment. The €33 million summer signing from Sunderland controlled a rebound with his chest and smashed home just before the break to give Dortmund a 3-1 cushion.
An own goal from Khuliso Mudau early in the second half seemed to end the game, but Sundowns, showing their continental pedigree, roared back.
Iqraam Rayners netted his second of the tournament with a smart header off a rebound, before Lebo Mothiba made it 4-3 in the 90th minute to set up a nervy finale.
