Kwara United defeat Abakaliki FC to claim the 2025 President Federation Cup after a tense 0–0 draw at Onikan Stadium, prevailing 4–3 in a penalty shoot‑out to lift their first national trophy since 1976.
Despite a glancing header from Wasiu Alalade that would have broken the deadlock in the 72nd minute, Kwara’s celebrations were cut short when the assistant referee flagged for offside.
The decision preserved the goalless stalemate—only the eighth in the competition’s history to require spot‑kicks.
Kwara United’s road to glory was paved with stout defensive displays. After eliminating Akwa United in a hard‑fought quarter‑final, they edged Rangers International 1–0 in the semi‑final, setting up a dream chance to end nearly half a century without a national title.
