“We Heard All the Talk” – Rasheedat Ajibade responds as Super Falcons humble Zambia in WAFCON 2024

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade says Zambia’s pre-match comments motivated Nigeria’s big win in the WAFCON 2024 quarter-final.

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has revealed that comments from the Zambian camp before the match served as extra motivation for Nigeria’s 5–0 demolition job in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ajibade, who was named Woman of the Match for the second time in the tournament, was at the heart of a dominant display in Casablanca registering two assists and showcasing the leadership that has defined Nigeria’s flawless run so far.

“There was a lot of talk from the Zambia camp, and we heard all of it,” Ajibade said after the final whistle. “It was big motivation for us.”

The 25-year-old led by example, setting up Nigeria’s second goal in the 33rd minute with a brilliant cross that was expertly converted by Esther Okoronkwo.

Ajibade capped her night with another assist in stoppage time, this time setting up young substitute Folasade Ijamilusi to complete the 5–0 rout.

It’s the second MVP award for Ajibade at WAFCON 2025, having first earned the honour in Nigeria’s group stage win over Botswana.

With 2 assists on the night and a commanding presence throughout the tournament, Ajibade has proven once again why she remains one of Africa’s elite talents.

Nigeria have reached the semifinals of WAFCON without conceding a single goal and will face either of Senegal or South Africa in the last four.
