D’Tigress begin AfroBasket camp in Abuja as Coach Rena Wakama joins 14 players in attendance

D’Tigress cruised to a victory over Rwanda in their opening game of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, extending their unbeaten run to 25 matches

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have officially commenced preparations for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship with the opening of their training camp in Abuja.

Head coach Rena Wakama has joined the team at the camp as 14 players begin early training ahead of the tournament in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The camp marks the start of Nigeria’s campaign to defend their continental title, having won the last four editions of the AfroBasket championship.

Wakama, who made history in 2023 as the first female head coach of the team, led D’Tigress to their fourth consecutive title that year—becoming the first Nigerian woman to coach the team to such success.
