Team Nigeria showcased complete dominance at the 2025 ITTF Africa West Regional Championship, with Matthew Kuti and Ajoke Ojomu spearheading the charge by claiming the men’s and women’s singles titles on the final day of action.
In the men’s singles final, Kuti delivered a composed performance to overcome fellow Nigerian and unseeded standout Abdulbasit Abdulfatai.
Despite losing the first set 11-9, the defending champion quickly regrouped to take the next four sets (11-6, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7), securing a convincing 4–1 victory.
The result marks Kuti’s successful defense of his regional crown, making it back-to-back singles titles at the tournament.

In the women’s singles, Ajoke Ojomu finally broke her title drought after finishing runner-up in the previous two editions.

She swept past compatriot Sukurat Aiyelabegan in straight sets (11-7, 11-8, 11-5, 14-12), winning her first ITTF West Africa singles title in dominant fashion.
The final day capped off a perfect campaign for Nigeria, who won gold in every category they competed in.
Earlier in the tournament, Ojomu had also led Nigeria to victory in the women’s team event, defeating Benin Republic 3–0.

The men’s team featuring Taiwo Mati, Kuti, and Abdulfatai also cruised to a 3–0 win over Ivory Coast to claim team gold.

With both individual and team titles secured, Nigeria left the 2025 West Africa regional championship as undisputed table tennis champions of the sub-region.
