WAFCON 2024: Adamawa Governor rewards Super Falcons coach Madugu with house and huge cash gift

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has honoured Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu with a three-bedroom bungalow and a ₦50 million cash reward following Nigeria’s historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Madugu, a native of Numan Local Government Area, was warmly received at the Government House in Yola.

Governor Fintiri praised his patriotism, tactical intelligence, and leadership, describing him as a source of pride for Adamawa and a key contributor to Nigeria’s record 10th WAFCON title.

In addition to the state honour, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier rewarded Madugu at a national reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

As part of the federal government’s package for the victorious Super Falcons team and technical staff:

Madugu received a $50,000 cash award (approx. ₦76 million)

He was conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)

He was also awarded a furnished 3-bedroom apartment in the government’s “Renewed Hope” Housing Estate.

Governor Fintiri, while presenting the Adamawa State rewards, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development, highlighting ongoing investments in modern sports infrastructure, including stadium projects and grassroots talent development.

Coach Madugu, visibly emotional, expressed gratitude for the state and national recognition, pledge to mentor young athletes in Adamawa and continue advocating for greater investment in women’s sports.
