Rangers claim first away win, break Remo Stars unbeaten home record

Rangers International FC claimed a famous 1-0 victory over defending champions Remo Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 9 clash at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Olamilekan Adedayo recorded the visitors’ first shot on target from a free-kick in the 10th minute, setting the tone for an intense encounter.

Twelve minutes later, Rangers took the lead when Godwin Obaje powered home a header from Evans Ogbonda’s cross, breaking the deadlock and marking his 90th NPFL goal — his fifth of the current season.

Remo Stars fought to find a response after the break, with Chilekwu testing the goalkeeper from range in the 49th minute, but Rangers’ shot-stopper Abine George pushed the ball away strongly.

The hosts came close to levelling late in the game when Gibson found Samson, whose shot was comfortably gathered by George in the 86th minute. Moments later, Michael Ibe had a glorious opportunity to equalise with a header that went inches wide of the post in the 90th minute.

Despite the late surge, Rangers held firm to secure their first away win of the season and extend their unbeaten run to four matches, during which they have scored two goals and kept four clean sheets.
