‘USOSA challenges us’: Enugu SSG praises alumni impact as Sports carnival gathers pace

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Enugu State, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, has said the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) continues to hold the government to account on its education reforms.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the association at the Government House in Enugu on Friday, Professor Onyia said USOSA’s engagement had been instrumental since the early stages of the state’s education transformation drive.

“The last time we were still at the preparatory, in some instances the foundational stage of our education transformation model, we engaged USOSA giving us some feedback about the curriculum, the pedagogy and a few things around the school process,” he said.

He added that the reforms had advanced significantly, with smart schools now operational across the state.

“Most of the smart green schools under His Excellency have already been onboarded. Close to 70 of those schools are functional now with students across the 17 local governments and three senatorial zones,” he said.

Highlighting the role of the association, the SSG said: “Each time USOSA comes here, they challenge us and also remind us that we are being watched and that they are tracking our progress their feedback is without bias.”

“We are always very excited when USOSA comes because I also communicate the feedback back to His Excellency so that it motivates the team and helps us tweak our strategy where necessary.”

The delegation was led by USOSA President General Michael Magaji, who said the association sees strong alignment between its objectives and the state’s education agenda.

“We see a clear convergence between what Enugu State is doing and what we as USOSAns stand for creating impact and transforming the public education space,” he said.

Mr Magaji said the association was also contributing to national education development through policy engagement.

“In Enugu State we see a very reliable partner giving the underserved and underprivileged the ability to participate in a 21st century knowledge economy,” he added.
