It has already been a remarkable period for Chibuike Nwaiwu winning trophies, breaking into the Super Eagles, and now becoming a father.
The Nigeria international has received life changing personal news ahead of the Super Eagles’ Unity Cup final against Jamaica after welcoming a baby girl with his wife, Melissa.
The timing could hardly be more emotional for the 22-year-old defender, who remains with the Nigeria squad in London preparing for Saturday’s showdown against the Reggae Boyz at The Valley.

Just days before one of the biggest matches of his young international career, Nwaiwu learned he had become a father for the first time, adding another unforgettable chapter to what has already been an extraordinary rise.
Turkish side Trabzonspor confirmed the news in an official statement, congratulating the defender and his family after the birth of their daughter, Jacinta.
“Our football player Chibuike Nwaiwu and Melissa couple had a daughter today.
“We wholeheartedly congratulate Chibuike Nwaiwu on the joy of becoming a father and wish their little one, whom they named Jacinta, a healthy and happy life,” the club said.
The announcement comes during an important moment in Nwaiwu’s career.
The former Enyimba defender played every minute of Nigeria’s 2-0 Unity Cup semi-final victory over Zimbabwe, producing a composed display in central defence as Eric Chelle’s side booked their place in Saturday’s final.
Calm in possession and solid defensively, Nwaiwu continued the impressive form that has defined his rapid rise over the past two seasons.

The defender first caught attention at Heartland before earning a move to Enyimba in 2022, where he quickly developed into one of the most reliable young defenders in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
He played a crucial role as Enyimba lifted the NPFL title during the 2022/23 season, with his versatility and physical presence making him one of the standout performers.
His performances soon attracted European interest, and in September 2024, he secured a move to Austrian side Wolfsberger.

Nwaiwu became an important figure for the Austrian club and helped them win the Austrian Cup, even scoring a dramatic late equaliser against LASK in the semi-finals before featuring in the final triumph.
That success paved the way for another major step in his career as Turkish giants Trabzonspor secured his signature in a deal worth around €5.5 million.
Since arriving in Turkey, the Nigerian has adapted quickly, scoring three league goals in 16 appearances and helping Trabzonspor lift the Turkish Cup.
His strong performances eventually earned him a long-awaited senior Super Eagles debut under Eric Chelle, and he has continued to grow in confidence within the national team setup.

Now, with fatherhood adding even more joy to an already unforgettable year, Nwaiwu will turn his attention back to football as Nigeria prepare to face Jamaica in the Unity Cup final.
The Super Eagles are chasing another title after defeating the Reggae Boyz on penalties in last year’s dramatic final following a 2-2 draw.
