Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has paid a glowing tribute to teenage football sensation Zadok Yohanna following the winger’s high-profile transfer to Premier League club Brighton.
The governor celebrated the 18-year-old with a full page newspaper advert, praising the youngster’s remarkable rise from Bauchi to one of England’s leading clubs and describing him as a source of pride and inspiration for the state.
The congratulatory message came days after Brighton completed the signing of Yohanna from Swedish side AIK Stockholm in a deal reportedly worth around £21.5 million.
The Premier League club secured the Nigerian’s signature despite intense competition from several European heavyweights. Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United were all linked with the winger, while clubs including Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Rennes and Tottenham were also reported to have monitored his progress.
Yohanna eventually opted for Brighton, signing a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until June 2031.

Having joined AIK Stockholm from Nigeria’s Ikon Allah Academy only last year, the left-footed attacker quickly established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in Scandinavian football.
Operating primarily from the right wing, Yohanna enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Sweden, registering nine goal contributions across all competitions while impressing with his pace, dribbling ability and attacking flair.
Those performances attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs before Brighton ultimately won the race for his signature.
Governor Mohammed also used the opportunity to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to youth development through investments in sports, education and entrepreneurship.
