Former Super Eagles striker Benedict Akwuegbu has expanded his football development project after acquiring the Nationwide League One (NLO) Division Two slot previously owned by Enugu-based Great Achievers FC.
The acquisition will allow Akwuegbu’s Ben Akwuegbu U-19 FC to compete in NLO Division Two from next season, providing another platform for young footballers in Plateau State to gain competitive experience and pursue professional careers.
Confirmation of the takeover was contained in an official letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer of NLO Division Two, Dr Olushola Ogunnowo, approving the transfer of the slot ahead of the new campaign scheduled to begin next month.
The move represents another significant step in Akwuegbu’s commitment to youth football development, with the former Nigeria international continuing efforts to create pathways for emerging talents.
Reacting to the approval, Akwuegbu praised the NLO leadership and acknowledged the role played by Dr Ogunnowo in the growth of Nigeria’s third-tier football structure.
“I want to specially thank the Chief Operating Officer of NLO Division Two, Dr Olushola Ogunnowo, who has brought remarkable transformation to the league,” Akwuegbu said.
“I welcome this opportunity and intend to use it to contribute meaningfully to football development in Nigeria by creating more opportunities for young players to realise their dreams.”

In a letter signed by the association’s chairman, Dr Prince Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, the Plateau FA commended Akwuegbu for his continued contribution to football development in the state and expressed support for the club’s participation in the league.
Akwuegbu, in response, thanked the Plateau FA leadership and described Kwande as one of the driving forces behind the recent progress of football in the state.
