Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained their 26th position in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, but the three-time African champions have slipped to fourth on the continent after Egypt moved ahead in the latest update released on Monday.
The latest rankings reflect a period of inactivity for Eric Chelle’s side, whose last outing was the 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal in June. With no competitive fixtures since then, Nigeria’s global standing remained unchanged, but developments elsewhere in African football altered the continental order.
Egypt’s impressive run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup proved decisive. The Pharaohs advanced to the Round of 16 before bowing out in a thrilling 3-2 defeat to eventual runners up Argentina, earning enough ranking points to overtake Nigeria and climb to third among African nations.

Morocco continues to lead the way on the continent after another memorable World Cup campaign. The Atlas Lions reached the quarterfinals in North America and climbed one place to sixth in the global rankings, consolidating their status as Africa’s highest ranked team.
Senegal remains Africa’s second-best ranked nation despite dropping three places in the world standings, while Algeria completes the continent’s top five after slipping one position globally.
At the summit of the world rankings, Spain have returned to the No. 1 spot after lifting the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy. Argentina, who finished runners-up, dropped to second, with France, England and Brazil completing the world’s top five.
FIFA also confirmed that the next edition of the Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be released on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
