The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has postponed its 2026 Elective Congress by one day, with delegates now set to elect a new Executive Committee on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The congress had originally been scheduled for Saturday, September 26, but the federation approved a change following a proposal from its Executive Committee.
The decision was ratified during an extraordinary General Assembly held virtually on Wednesday.
NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau explained that the postponement became necessary after the Super Eagles’ opening qualifier for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations against Madagascar was scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2026, following discussions with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to Gusau, a number of candidates expected to contest positions in the federation’s elections are also involved with the senior national team, making it difficult for them to travel to Lafia in time for the congress the following day.
“In view of this development, the Executive Committee considered it necessary to seek the approval of Congress for a one-day postponement of the Elective Congress,” Gusau said.
The proposal received unanimous backing during the virtual General Assembly after it was formally moved and seconded by members of Congress.
As a result, the federation confirmed that the election will now be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

The Elective Congress will choose members of the NFF Executive Committee, who will oversee the administration of Nigerian football for the next four years.
