Brighton beat Chelsea and Man City to sign Nigerian wonderkid Zadok Yohanna

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of highly rated Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna from AIK Stockholm, winning a fierce transfer battle for one of Scandinavia’s most sought after young talents.

The Premier League club confirmed the 18-year-old has signed a contract until June 2031 after agreeing a deal worth around £21.5 million.

Yohanna’s move concludes weeks of speculation involving several top clubs. Brighton initially led the race after reaching a verbal agreement with the player, but Newcastle United later emerged with a strong offer, while Chelsea and Manchester City also attempted late moves for the teenager.

The winger enjoyed a breakthrough season with AIK, establishing himself as one of the standout young players in Sweden. Operating mainly from the right flank, the left-footed attacker registered nine goal contributions across all competitions and attracted widespread interest from clubs across Europe.

His performances also reportedly drew attention from Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Rennes and Tottenham.

Having joined AIK from Nigeria’s Ikon Allah Academy just last year, Yohanna’s rapid rise has been remarkable. His pace, dribbling ability and attacking flair quickly made him one of the most exciting prospects.
