Former Nigeria FA chairman Ibrahim Galadima dies aged 74

Former Nigeria Football Federation  (NFF) chairman, Ibrahim Galadima, has died at the age of 74. He died on Saturday evening at a hospital in Kano, according to a statement released by his family and confirmed by his younger brother, Alhaji Abba Galadima.

Funeral prayers are due to take place on Sunday, 19 April, at the Fagge Juma’at Mosque in Kano at 10:00 local time.

Galadima served as head of the Nigeria Football Association now the Nigeria Football Federation from 2002 until 2006. His tenure ended after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and he was replaced by Sani Lulu.

Born on 14 June 1951, Galadima held several administrative roles in Kano and at national level. He was chairman of the Kano State Football Association between 1977 and 1979.

later served as executive chairman of the Kano State Sports Council from 1981 to 1983. In 1984, he was appointed to the caretaker committee of the National Sports Commission, before becoming first vice-president of the Nigerian Olympic Committee from 1985 to 1987.

Galadima was also among the founding figures of Kano Pillars, established in 1991. He played a role in Nigeria’s hosting of the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship, serving as chairman of the Kano sub-committee.
