Nigeria Football Federation have reportedly made a move to convince William Osula to switch international allegiance from Denmark to Nigeria, as efforts intensify to strengthen the Super Eagles’ attacking options.
The 22-year-old Newcastle United striker, who joined from Sheffield United, has enjoyed a recent surge in form despite spending much of the season as a rotational player.
In recent weeks, Osula has begun to establish himself, delivering key goals for the Magpies including a standout winner against Manchester United that underlined his growing reputation as one of the Premier League’s emerging forwards.
Off the pitch, he has also drawn attention for his connection to Nigeria. A viral video showing him preparing the traditional dish Ogbono soup while playfully referencing his opponents further endeared him to Nigerian fans.

Born in Copenhagen to a Danish mother and a Nigerian-French father, Osula is eligible to represent multiple countries. He has previously featured for Denmark at youth level and recently accepted a senior call up.
However, despite being included in Denmark’s squad for their March fixtures, he did not make an appearance leaving his international future still open.
According to Danish journalist Farzam Abolhosseini, Nigeria’s interest is growing more concrete. Writing on X, he revealed that the federation has already made contact in a bid to persuade the striker to represent the Super Eagles instead.
Nigeria currently boasts several attacking options, including Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Paul Onuachu. Yet Osula’s profile combining pace, strength, and long-term potential positions him as a unique addition.
There is also a broader view within Nigerian football that he could, in time, develop into a successor to Victor Osimhen as the focal point of the national team’s attack.

With Denmark yet to cap him at senior level and having missed out on World Cup qualification, a potential pathway remains open. Whether Nigeria can successfully secure his commitment, however, is a question that may define one of the more intriguing international eligibility battles in the months ahead.
