NFF appoints interim board to oversee Nigeria’s beach soccer and futsal leagues

The Nigeria Football Federation has constituted an interim board to oversee the organisation of beach soccer and futsal leagues, with Mahmud Hadejia appointed chairman.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has constituted an interim board to oversee the organisation and administration of beach soccer and futsal leagues across the country, marking a significant step in the continued development of the two rapidly growing formats of the game.

The newly constituted board will be chaired by Mahmud Hadejia, a key figure in the growth of beach soccer in Nigeria and current President of the African Beach Soccer Union (ABSU).

Other members of the board include Dele Gbajumo, Hon. Nkopuye Ukpe, Abdul-Nasir Adamu Senchi, Prof. Victor Madubuiko, Alhaji Mohammed Bukar Alau, and former Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi.

The NFF also named Saraki Rasheed Oladimeji as the board’s Chief Executive Officer, while a Chief Operating Officer will be appointed by the Federation’s General Secretary.

The appointment comes months after another successful edition of the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL), where Hadejia, as league coordinator, received widespread praise from NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi for his leadership in organising the competition.

Speaking during the opening round of the 2025 NBSL in Birnin Kebbi, Sanusi commended Hadejia and other stakeholders for their commitment to developing beach soccer, describing the sport as a tool for youth empowerment, employment creation and the fight against social vices.

The 2025 league featured eight teams competing across three rounds in Kebbi, Kaduna and Anambra States, before the season-ending Super Six Finals, further highlighting the steady expansion of beach soccer in Nigeria.

The creation of the interim board is expected to strengthen the administration of both beach soccer and futsal, provide a clearer governance structure, and drive the organisation of domestic competitions as the NFF seeks to build sustainable pathways for both sports.
