Osimhen continues hot start as Galatasaray hammer Erzurumspor 4-0

Victor Osimhen continued his explosive start to the Turkish Süper Lig campaign with a two-goal performance and an assist as Galatasaray swept Erzurumspor aside 4-0 on Matchday 2.

The Nigeria striker was at the heart of Galatasaray’s attacking display, combining his goalscoring instincts with intelligent movement and an unselfish contribution as Okan Buruk’s side maintained their perfect start.

Roland Sallai opened the scoring in the 12th minute, reacting quickest to a rebound inside the box before firing into the bottom corner.

In the 20th minute, he found himself in a promising shooting position but instead picked out Yunus Akgün, who calmly finished into the bottom-left corner to double Galatasaray’s advantage.

The Nigerian continued to trouble the Erzurumspor defence and came close to adding his name to the scoresheet before half time.

His powerful effort in the 13th minute was blocked by goalkeeper Matija Orbanic, while another attempt was ruled out after he had strayed offside.

In the 45th minute, Osimhen pounced on a loose ball following a costly error by Orbanic and made no mistake from inside the box, putting Galatasaray 3-0 ahead.

It was the striker’s first goal of the night, but there was more to come. Galatasaray continued to control proceedings after the restart, with Osimhen remaining a constant outlet.

He had another effort blocked in the 57th minute before playing a clever pass that almost resulted in another Galatasaray goal when Barış Yılmaz headed narrowly wide.

The fourth goal eventually arrived in the 79th minute, and once again Osimhen was involved.

Gabriel Sara found himself in a good position inside the box but chose to square the ball to Osimhen. The striker kept his composure before blasting his finish inside the left post to complete his brace.

Osimhen’s performance is particularly important following a previous league campaign in which he finished with 15 goals, ending outside the top three in the scoring charts as Trabzonspor’s Paul Onuachu and İstanbul Başakşehir’s Eldor Shomurodov shared the Golden Boot.

There was little doubt, however, about his influence in this match. two goals, an assist and another emphatic Galatasaray victory Osimhen has wasted little time reminding the Süper Lig of the threat he carries.
