Remo Stars have officially been relegated from the Nigeria Premier Football League after a heartbreaking end to the 2025/26 season, completing one of the most dramatic declines in recent Nigerian football history.
The Sky Blue Stars confirmed their relegation in an emotional club statement released shortly after the conclusion of the campaign, admitting disappointment over their inability to preserve their top-flight status.
The club said:
“Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season, Remo Stars will now compete in the Nigeria National League for next season.”
The statement described the outcome as “heartbreaking” for supporters, players, staff and everyone connected to the club, while also accepting responsibility for the failure.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration this season has brought. The expectations attached to this club were high, and rightly so. Unfortunately, we did not deliver the performances or consistency required to maintain our place in the division. We take full responsibility for that failure.”
Remo Stars’ fate was sealed in agonising fashion on the final day, Needing victory away against Bendel Insurance to secure survival, the Ogun State club appeared on course to escape relegation before conceding a dramatic equaliser in the 90+4th minute.
At the same time, newly promoted Kun Khalifat defeated Wikki Tourists 3-1 in Owerri to climb out of danger.
The combination of results condemned Remo Stars to relegation on goal difference, with the club finishing the campaign on minus one.

The outcome marks a staggering fall for a club that only 12 months ago were celebrating their historic first NPFL title.
Remo Stars had become one of the modern success stories of Nigerian club football, transforming perceptions around the league through strong branding, improved infrastructure and a vibrant matchday culture in Ikenne.
Their stadium atmosphere, digital scoreboard and professional club presentation earned praise across the country, while the club’s rapid rise injected fresh excitement into the NPFL.
But football’s brutality was fully exposed this season as the same club that lifted the league title in 2024/25 now prepares for life in the Nigeria National League.
Despite the disappointment, the club insisted the project remains alive and vowed to rebuild.
“Remo Stars remains a club built on vision, ambition, hard work, and the unwavering spirit of our community.”
“Our focus now turns toward rebuilding with purpose and determination. Important decisions will be made and every effort will be directed toward returning this club to where it belongs.”
For many supporters, the pain lies not only in relegation itself, but in how suddenly everything changed.
From champions to second division football within a year, Remo Stars’ collapse will go down as one of the most shocking reversals in NPFL history.
