Nigeria has confirmed its participation in the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia, as NSC DG Olopade attends a strategic seminar

Nigeria has officially confirmed its participation in the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, set to be held in Saudi Arabia from 7 to 21 November 2025.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has tasked its Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, to serve as Chef de Mission for Team Nigeria, as preparations gather pace.

Olopade is currently attending a two-day seminar in Riyadh, designed to brief national delegations on the updated regulations and operational framework for the Games.

Olopade’s attendance comes shortly after he oversaw the smooth execution of the 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State, demonstrating the NSC’s intent to maintain momentum in Nigeria’s sporting calendar.

The seminar, hosted by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF), brings together officials from all 57 participating nations. It aims to ensure logistical clarity, shared expectations, and optimal performance planning ahead of what is expected to be a landmark edition of the Games.

In a statement, the NSC emphasised that Nigeria views the Games not only as a competitive event but as a platform to “promote unity, diversity, and the shared humanity” that the Islamic Solidarity Games represent.

The event will return to Saudi soil for the first time in two decades, following the inaugural edition in 2005.

Organisers are preparing to welcome thousands of athletes in a bid to foster solidarity through sport among Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

Nigeria, which has historically performed well at previous editions, will be looking to field a competitive squad across athletics, combat sports, team games, and more. A formal athlete selection process and preparatory camps are expected in the coming months
