Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have been left in limbo following the abrupt postponement of the inaugural WAFU A&B U-20 Boys Cup of Nations.
Originally scheduled to run from 15 to 30 June 2025 in Prampram, Ghana, the tournament was called off just days before kick-off.
The news was confirmed in a letter issued by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which stated that a new date would be announced in due course.
“We regret to announce that the WAFU A&B U-20 Boys Cup of Nations has been postponed,” the GFA said in a statement shared with participating nations.

Sixteen West African nations were set to participate, with Nigeria’s Flying Eagles deep into preparations in Abuja under head coach Aliyu Zubairu.
The Flying Eagles had secured a third-place finish at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. The team defeated hosts Egypt 4-1 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time.
The bronze medal finish marked a successful campaign for the Flying Eagles, who had previously lost to South Africa in the semi-finals. However, the team had already secured a place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup by reaching the quarter-finals.
The team had been using the competition as a critical build-up to the FIFA U-20 World Cup later this year in Chile.
