Besiktas beat EPL clubs to sign Super Eagles star in stunning free transfer

Besiktas have completed a deal to sign Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Fenerbahçe.

The 27-year-old right-back, who spent five seasons at Fenerbahçe, has agreed personal terms with Besiktas and will reportedly earn €2.5 million annually, with an official announcement expected before the club’s pre-season begins on 28 June, according to Turkish outlet Sozcu.

Osayi-Samuel, who had been linked with a return to the Premier League and several Ligue 1 clubs, including Crystal Palace, has instead opted to remain in Turkey with the Black Eagles.

The move is seen as a major statement from Besiktas, who are seeking to rebuild under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær after finishing fourth in the Super Lig last season.

Besiktas initially hoped to negotiate a lower salary but ultimately accepted the Nigerian’s full demands to secure his signature.

Capable of operating both as a right-back and right wing-back, Osayi-Samuel’s arrival adds tactical flexibility and experience to Solskjær’s evolving squad.

The defender also boosts the club’s ambitions to close the gap on champions Galatasaray, who finished 33 points ahead last season.

Osayi-Samuel, who featured for the Super Eagles during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, is expected to undergo medical tests in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Besiktas are closing in on another key target, Patrick Berg from Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt. Talks are reportedly at an advanced stage, with a €7 million deal in the works for the 27-year-old defensive midfielder.
