Gov. Umo Eno hosts Troost-Ekong, announce plans for sports festival in Akwa Ibom

In a bid to discover new talents and grow the sports industry, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced plans to host a sports festival in the state. The Governor made this known when he hosted Akwa Ibom sports stars, William Troost-Ekong and Idara Otu, in company with their families, to a dinner at his lodge at Government House, Uyo.

The sports festival, which is part of the state’s ARISE Agenda, aims to celebrate the state’s rich sporting heritage and provide a platform for athletes to showcase their talents. The festival will feature various sporting events, including football, athletics, boxing, swimming, and wrestling, as well as traditional sports unique to the region.

Governor Eno expressed his administration’s commitment to sports development, highlighting the soon-to-be-flagged-off sports academy as a key initiative. “Sports development is one of the key areas of our ARISE Agenda,” he said.

“We are committed to investing in sports and providing opportunities for our athletes to excel.”

The Governor’s initiative has been welcomed by the sporting community, with many praising his efforts to promote sports development in the state. “This is a wonderful initiative,” said William Troost-Ekong, one of the sports stars honored by the Governor. “It will provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and take their careers to the next level.”
