Burnley and two other clubs join race for Super Eagles Frank Onyeka

Industrious Super Eagles star, Frank Onyeka is attracting growing interest from top European clubs. Fiorentina, Stuttgart, and newly promoted Burnley are all monitoring the midfielder’s situation ahead of the 2025/26 season. Onyeka’s standout performances during his loan spell at Augsburg have not gone unnoticed, and his value in shielding the back four and linking play has sparked interest from clubs across Europe.

Onyeka, 27, made 34 appearances for Augsburg, earning plaudits for his relentless energy, ball-winning ability, and tactical discipline. Although he registered just two assists, his overall contribution to the team did not go unnoticed. His performances have caught the attention of Serie A giants Fiorentina, Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart, and Burnley, who are preparing for life in the Premier League.

However, Onyeka’s parent club Brentford may be reluctant to let him go, particularly with club captain Christian Nørgaard reportedly close to joining Arsenal.

The Gunners are finalizing an €11 million deal, plus add-ons, to secure the Dane, who is seen as a long-term replacement for Ghana’s Thomas Partey. Should Nørgaard leave, Brentford may be forced to keep Onyeka as midfield cover, unless they secure an adequate replacement. This uncertainty has put Onyeka’s future in a delicate balance.

At the international level, Onyeka has fought his way back into the plans of new Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle. After missing out on March’s World Cup qualifiers, he was recalled for the Unity Cup in May and the friendly against Russia in June, seemingly cementing his place ahead of crucial September qualifiers. Since making his debut in 2020, Onyeka has amassed 32 caps and one goal for Nigeria. He was a key part of the squad that reached the final of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
