£9m release clause sparks transfer battle for Super Eagles workhorse Wilfred Ndidi

Super eagles star Wilfred Ndidi set for Leicester exit with Premier League and European clubs circling due to his £9m release clause.

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is at the centre of a growing transfer battle after it emerged that the Leicester City midfielder is available for just £9 million this summer.

The Super Eagles star is widely expected to leave the King Power Stadium, and several clubs across Europe, including England, Italy, Spain, and Turkey, have been alerted to the bargain release clause in his contract.

Among the Premier League sides monitoring his situation are Everton, who have been long-time admirers of the 28-year-old and are reportedly considering a formal approach.

“Everton are considering signing Wilfred Ndidi,” former Manchester United Chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider.

“It’s a move I expect he will be open to as well — the chance to get straight back into the Premier League after getting relegated with Leicester.”

Brown, now 85, added that Everton has regularly scouted Ndidi and could try to move ahead of other interested clubs.

“They’ve been keen on him for a while, and he’s a very solid player. Everton have had scouts watching his performances, and he’s been one of Leicester’s better players.”

While Everton is seen as a serious contender, competition is expected to be fierce due to the affordability of the deal.

“It might prove difficult to get over the line because there are a lot of clubs who have been made aware of that release clause he’s got,” Brown said.

“But I expect them to make an attempt to bring him in ahead of these clubs.”

Ndidi played a key role in Leicester’s campaign last season but is keen on a move away from the Championship and a return to top-flight football. “Either way, it looks like he’s definitely leaving Leicester,” Brown concluded.
