The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a standby notice to all 20 clubs ahead of its crucial Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled to take place before the end of July 2025.

In a circular signed by Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, clubs were informed that the AGM will also serve as the platform for conducting the draws and releasing fixtures for the 2025/2026 season, which has now been confirmed to kick off on 22 August 2025 and run through 24 May 2026.

The league’s organisers stated that the exact date, time, and venue of the AGM will be communicated in due course, but urged clubs to be prepared for the high-level meeting, which typically lays the foundation for the season ahead.

The previous campaign was one for the history books, with Remo Stars crowned champions for the first time in their history. The Ikenne-based side clinched the title with three games to spare, sealing their triumph on matchday 35 with a hard-fought victory away to Nasarawa United in Lafia.

The 2024/25 NPFL season featured 380 matches, producing 286 wins, 92 draws, and 552 home goals. In a fiercely contested campaign, 16 penalties were missed, and over 1,180 yellow and red cards were issued by match officials across the league.

Yusuf Anas finished the season as the top scorer, netting 18 goals, including two consecutive hat-tricks—a rare feat. He was closely followed by NPFL veteran Rabiu Ali, who scored 13 goals.

The League Management has also confirmed that the champions of the upcoming 2025/26 season will receive a record ₦200 million cash prize, in what is being seen as part of efforts to improve competitiveness and reward excellence in Nigerian club football.
