Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq is attracting interest from Elche CF and Turkish side Samsunspor, as his time at Real Sociedad appears to be nearing an end.
The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia, where he impressed with five goals in 16 appearances, including a stunning long-range effort that earned him La Liga’s Goal of the Month in March.
Despite flashes of brilliance, Sadiq’s career at Real Sociedad has been undermined by a long-term injury and a system that does not favour a traditional centre forward.
In an interview with Africafoot, 1996 Olympic gold medallist Garba Lawal urged Sadiq to leave Sociedad in search of consistent first-team football.

“Sadiq has great qualities that many teams could benefit from. I’m convinced he still has plenty of goals to score,” Lawal said.
“What he needs now is regular first-team play, something I doubt Real Sociedad can offer him.”

Lawal, who starred in Europe during his playing days with Dutch club Roda JC, said the issue is not about talent but tactics.
“It’s not a question of quality. The club doesn’t play with a proper number 9. It’s about the system. He needs to be somewhere that fits him.”
Elche and Samsunspor show interest
According to Africafoot, Elche CF, who are aiming for a stronger showing in Spain’s Segunda División this season, have identified Sadiq as a key target to reinforce their attack.

Turkish Super Lig side Samsunspor are also reportedly in the mix, with both clubs ready to offer a permanent deal.
Real Sociedad, who signed Sadiq from Almería in 2022, are now open to a sale. The forward is under contract until 2028, but a permanent move looks likely after the club ruled out another loan.

Lawal revealed he has maintained contact with Sadiq through the striker’s challenging spell in San Sebastián.
“When he was lacking playing time, I encouraged him not to give up. Football has its ups and downs,” said the former Nigeria international. “Now he needs to go where he’ll play. That’s what matters most.”
Sadiq, who has previously impressed in Serie A, the Portuguese Primeira Liga, and La Liga, is now weighing his options as preseason preparations intensify.
