Nigeria’s Amy Okonkwo was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket after leading the D’Tigress to a 78–64 win over Mali in the final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan.
The 28-year-old forward finished with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and hit four 3-pointers, playing the full 40 minutes of the championship game.

Her performance capped a dominant tournament that saw Nigeria claim a fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and extend their winning streak in the competition to 29 matches since 2015.

Okonkwo’s consistent displays earned her a place among elite company. She becomes only the fourth woman in AfroBasket history to win multiple MVP titles, joining:
Mame Maty Mbengue of Senegal (3x)
Nacissela Mauricio of Angola (2x)
Aya Traore of Senegal (2x)
She previously won the award in 2023 and now becomes the first Nigerian to achieve the feat twice.

Okonkwo was instrumental throughout the competition and stepped up in the final alongside veteran guard Ezinne Kalu, who added 20 points and five assists.
