Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom on a season-long loan from Ajax, with an obligation to buy if promoted to the Premier League.
The 29-year-old was initially set for a loan move to Birmingham City before Middlesbrough, his former club, attempted to hijack the deal.
Ipswich then stepped in and convinced the former Arsenal striker to join them instead.

Birmingham later upgraded their offer to a permanent £6m move, which Ajax accepted, but Akpom had already passed his medical at Ipswich and made it clear he wanted the switch.

In a twist of fate, Ipswich and Birmingham met in the opening game of the Championship season.
Akpom, who can operate as a striker, supporting forward, or attacking midfielder, becomes the third Nigerian to play for Ipswich after Sone Aluko and Super Eagles legend Finidi George.

Despite switching international allegiance from England to Nigeria years ago, Akpom has yet to receive a Super Eagles call-up.
