Orban close to Ligue 1 comeback after Hoffenheim struggles

Nigerian striker Gift Orban is in line for a return to Ligue 1, with Toulouse in advanced talks to sign him from Hoffenheim.

The 23-year-old only joined the Bundesliga club in January from Lyon for €9m but has struggled to hold down a place, scoring four goals in his first six matches before injuries and inconsistent form left him on the bench.

French outlet Foot Mercato reports that Toulouse are keen to bring Orban back on loan with an option to buy, as they continue their search for attacking reinforcements.

Orban, who first moved to France in January 2024 when Lyon signed him from Belgian side Gent for €14m, managed just three goals in 16 appearances before being sold to Hoffenheim.

At Gent, the forward had enjoyed a prolific spell, scoring 15 goals in 16 matches in the 2022/23 season a run that saw him briefly linked with Barcelona.

Despite his mixed fortunes in Germany, Orban remains highly rated, and Toulouse see him as a solution after missing out on other striking targets this summer.

The French side, coached by Carles Martínez Novell, are expected to push through the deal before the close of the transfer window.
