Sevilla striker Akor Jerome Adams has left the Super Eagles’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) camp in Fes to be with his mother, who was admitted to hospital.
The 25-year-old forward, who has become a first-team regular under coach Éric Chelle, made his international debut in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Lesotho in October 2025.
Since then, he has started six of Nigeria’s seven matches, all alongside Victor Osimhen, scoring three goals.

Adams opened his AFCON scoring account in Nigeria’s 4-0 Round of 16 victory against Mozambique on Monday night. He dedicated his goal to his mother, who could not be present in Morocco.
“First, glory to God for the privilege to have my AFCON half goal like all of you have been waiting for, but the goal is dedicated to my mom,” Adams told journalist

“She’s supposed to be here, but she’s in the hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now.”

Adams, a former Montpellier and Sogndal forward, has now been granted permission to leave camp to be with his mother. He is expected to return in time for Nigeria’s quarter-final clash on Saturday.
The Nigeria Football Federation approved the request on compassionate grounds, allowing the striker to be with his family during the period.

Despite his departure, the Super Eagles remain focused on their next fixture as they aim for a first Africa Cup of Nations title since 2013.
