Joe Aribo reveals why he joined Leicester City from Southampton

Leicester City have completed the loan signing of Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo from Southampton until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old arrives at the King Power Stadium as the Foxes look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the Championship campaign.

Aribo joined Southampton in 2022 following three successful seasons with Rangers in Scotland, where he won the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup, and scored in the UEFA Europa League final defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022.

He has made 111 appearances for the Saints across league competitions, scoring nine goals, and has featured 53 times in the Premier League. However, his opportunities this season have been limited, with seven appearances, the most recent coming in the win over West Bromwich Albion on 9 December.

Speaking after completing the move, Aribo said he was convinced by Leicester City’s potential and ambition.

“I’ve always known the squad is good,” he told the club website. “I’m so certain where we can get to and what we can do together. It’s just good to be a part of it.”

Born in Camberwell, London, Aribo began his professional career at non-league side Staines Town before joining Charlton Athletic in 2015. He established himself during the 2016–17 season, performances that earned him a move to Rangers.

During his time at Ibrox, Aribo made 149 appearances, scoring 26 goals, and was a regular in European competition, making more than 40 continental appearances. His goal in the Europa League final in Seville remains one of the highlights of his club career, despite Rangers defeat on penalties.
