CAF seeks unity as Motsepe visits Senegal over 2025 AFCON dispute

CAF President Patrice Motsepe is due in Senegal on Tuesday for high-level discussions with government and football authorities, as the Confederation of African Football seeks to contain tensions following a disputed ruling over the hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON).

The visit follows a controversial decision by CAF’s Appeal Committee to award hosting rights for the tournament to Morocco, a move that has triggered dissatisfaction among some member associations.

Motsepe’s trip is being viewed as a diplomatic effort to ease growing tensions and encourage dialogue between stakeholders, with CAF keen to prevent further divisions within African football.
